The Institute of Eco-Environmental Forensics, Shandong University, Qingdao Campus, Agro-Environmental Protection Institute, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and the International Network of Environmental Forensics invite you to attend and present at the International Conference on Eco-Environmental Forensic Science (ICEEFS 2024) held at Shandong University (Qingdao Campus) on December 1-3, 2024. In particular, we will invite Professor Stephen Michael Mudge, Chair of the International Network of Environmental Forensics, and well-known experts and scholars at home and abroad to make keynote speeches, aiming at having an in-depth discussion on the identification, assessment, restoration and legal litigation of eco-environmental damage.

The theme of this first conference is:

Eco-Environmental Challenges in the Asia-Pacific Region.

The Asia-Pacific region faces many environmental issues such as air, water and soil contamination; new and emerging contaminants; biodiversity loss; climate change and natural disasters. Environmental forensic science can play a vital role in addressing these challenges by identifying the sources, pathways and impacts of environmental contaminants, as well as providing scientific evidence for environmental litigation and remediation.

The conference will cover a wide range of topics related to environmental forensics, such as:

· Contaminant source identification, apportionment and tracking

· Novel approaches and analytical methods

· Demonstrating ecological effects

· Eco-environmental damage assessment

· Remediation technologies

· Environmental risk assessment and management

· Environmental policy and regulation

· Environmental justice and ethics

· Environmental education and communication

· Case studies and best practices

· Illegal export of cultural items or biota

Background on the Institute of Eco-Environmental Forensics

Date formed, staff, mission, student base, facilities

To meet the needs of ecological civilization construction and solve the technical identification problems in the judicial litigation and compensation cases of eco-environmental damage, Shandong University explored establishing the Institute of Eco-Environmental Forensics (hereinafter referred to as "Institute") in July 2019, which is the first interdisciplinary research institution covering Environmental Science, Ecology, Chemistry, Law and other fields in China. The institute developed a Master's program and a Doctoral program for the "Science of Environmental Forensic" to cultivate talents in the Environmental Forensic field in China.

The main research directions include 1. Pollutant Identification and Traceability. 2. Ecological risk and assessment. 3. Ecological destruction and human health. 4. Accounting of Ecological environmental damage. 5. Law and Policy on Eco-Environmental Forensics.

Relying on the Institute of Eco-Environmental Forensics, the Ministry of Justice and Shandong University established the " Ministry of Justice Hub for Research & Practice in Eco-Environmental Forensics" in October 2019. It implements a new mechanism and system with two different brand names but sharing the same group of personnel. The two parties cooperate in three aspects as follows:

1. Establish and improve the theoretical and technical system of Eco-Environmental Forensics.

2. Explore the training mode of the top talents in Eco-Environmental Forensics and strengthen the cultivation of the application-oriented and compound talents.

3. Set up an intelligent platform and high-end think tank for technical exchange and big data network sharing of Eco-Environmental Forensics, and promote the high integration of scientific research and practice of Eco-Environmental Forensics.
